Joy Division - A People's History
Formed in Salford they played fewer than 150 gigs, lasted barely four years and had no significant chart success while active as a band. With the suicide of singer Ian Curtis in May 1980, the surviving members – Peter Hook, Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris – went on to form New Order. Yet despite the band’s brief existence, Joy Division stand as one of the most influential and revered acts of the late 1970s.
To be published in April 2027, the book takes the reader on a journey via previously unpublished eyewitness accounts from the band’s formation through to its end, and looks back at the legacy and impact of the band on the Manchester music scene and music more generally.
Compiled by Louder Than War’s Nigel Carr, co-producer of the acclaimed play New Dawn Fades, Joy Division – A People’s History will take the reader on a journey back through time.
