This Nation’s Saving Grace - A People’s History of The Fall
2027 sees the publication of This Nation’s Saving Grace - A People’s History of The Fall, the story of the post-punk band from Manchester in the words of over 500 fans.
Led by the charismatic, curmudgeonly & much missed Mark E Smith, and despite only three Top 40 hit singles in a 40-year career, The Fall have nonetheless achieved cult status thanks in part to legendary Radio 1 DJ John Peel. They appeared ‘in session’ 24 times on his nighttime radio show, more than any other act in Peel’s 37 years with the BBC.
Compiled by Manchester-based music writer Iain Key, This Nation’s Saving Grace takes its title from the band’s 1985 album of the same name. With eyewitness accounts from fans, former band members, promoters, producers and support acts, and with the endorsement of several former band members, this is the story of The Fall as it’s never been told before.
John Peel said of The Fall: ‘They are always different, they are always the same.’
