I Know What I Like - A People's History of Genesis

Formed in 1967 at Charterhouse School in Surrey, UK, Genesis went on to be one of the biggest-selling bands in the world. From their 1969 debut, From Genesis To Revelation, through to The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway in 1974, the band were led by vocalist Peter Gabriel and recognised as one of the leading exponents of progressive rock.
When Gabriel left in 1975 to embark upon a solo career, drummer Phil Collins stepped up to the microphone to take over vocal duties and the band released two further albums in 1976 before guitarist Steve Hackett also departed the line up.
As a three-piece, the remaining Genesis members forged a highly successful career as a more pop-oriented outfit and a string of hit singles before Collins left the band in 1996. The band ceased recording and touring in 2000 but returned in 2007 and again in 2021-22 (for The Last Domino? tour) before finally bringing their career to a close.
With an estimated 150 million career album sales, six UK number 1 albums and ten Billboard Hot 100 top ten singles, including two number 1s, Genesis’s place in the pantheon of rock gods is assured.
To be published in 2027 to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the band, and compiled by music writer Bruce Pegg, I Know What I Like brings together over 400 Genesis concert memories from across their illustrious career.
